Solar Panel case study

The following case study demonstrates how SQE Health and Safety consultants operate in a real example

“SQE have provided great support to GB Solar on a variety of projects throughout the UK.  They have enabled an easy transition into the UK market.  Supporting us in all our undertakings, from design to installation and maintenance they have provided professional, realistic, support throughout.”

Antje Bergmann, site management for GOLDBECK Solar GmbH

The project

A ground mounted photo-voltaic installation (solar panels) over 17 acres at the Dillington Estate, Ilminster.

The problem

The site already housed two small scale PV installations which needed to be integrated into the new project.

Whilst the original projects undertaken by others were managed under the CDM Regulations, limited information was available.

The design and construction of the new Solar Farm required considerable on site management to ensure compliance.

An additional challenge to the project was the primary designer and Principal Contractor were German.  Compliance to UK standards had to be considered and maintained throughout the project, including ensuring that language / communication was not a barrier to compliance.

The site was traversed by various irrigation pipes… two gas mains, below ground high voltage (11kVA)

Environmental issues included adjacent to SSI, various watercourses, Japanese Knott Weed and various amphibians…

Solution

On site supervision and management throughout the project.

SQE provided daily support to ensure compliance.  Our H&S advisors were on site to ensure compliance.

We prepared an appropriate Safety Management System and successfully implemented.

All documentation, notices, briefings, etc. were translated into German, Romanian and Polish to ensure the safety of the staff on site.

The project was delivered ahead of programme, with full legislative compliance, and NO accidents or incidents.
